Get it to press

Plan the edition, lay the pages out in a browser, and export a print-ready CMYK PDF. Your designers keep InDesign for building advertisements — editorial pages need no InDesign at all, and no InDesign Server.

How it works

From an empty page plan to a file the printer can use.

01

Plan the edition

Create the issue and its pages. Page geometry — columns, margins, bleed, baseline grid — comes from the publication type, so every page of a masthead is built to the same measure.

02

Fill the pages

Allocate approved stories and booked adverts to pages. What is sold and what is written are already in the system, so nothing is rekeyed and nothing is missed.

03

Lay it out

Open the page in a browser and compose it. Drag, resize, snap to the grid, thread a story through several frames, add rules and boxes. Adverts snap to the modular grid they were sold on.

04

Make it fit

Text is measured as you go, so you can see whether a story fits its frames before you commit. Headline sizes, tracking and deck breaks are adjustable in place.

05

Keep it honest

If a story is pulled or an advert changes after a page is built, the page tells you rather than quietly printing something stale.

06

Send it to press

Export a print-ready CMYK PDF with your publication’s colour profile applied and body text at 100% black — not a four-colour approximation of black.
